Question Does anyone here design/build their own furniture?

With homeowning right around the corner, Tim's been talking a lot about the stuff he wants to build. I'm pretty excited that he says he's so handy, I hope he's not all talk

Have any of you or your hubbies built any of your furniture or other home items?

Nope I've never built anything and I don't think DH is "handy" with building stuff. If either of us build something I'm thinking it would most likely have to be me.

I honestly might if we actually owned our own house. Then I'd want to decorate and make cool stuff. When it's not ours I just don't have the urge to do anything for it.

Hmmm well now that I think about it I did help my mom with stuff for the house when I was still living at home. I helped put tile down on an outside patio thing. My favorite thing to do is shop for the stuff though and not actually put it together. Going shopping with my mom to pick out tile, carpet, towels, decorations etc. was always my favorite thing to do.

One of our good friends (they live in OK now) does wood working as a hobby.. for the cost of materials, he built me an oak blanket chest for our bedroom. It's beautiful... We're renters, and will be until G retires, so we haven't really "customized" a place of our own yet.... Good luck to you guys, and don't forget, Home Depot offers classes for stuff!

I wish...

BUT...

My husband HAS refinished furniture for me. I have an old, antique cabinet with glass doors. The old finish was just plain ugly. He scraped it all off and refinished it, and its like a "new antique" now. He also refinished a night stand our old neighbor gave us. The top was water damaged, so he took it off, made a new one, and refinished it. Now its like new. He did make some shelves for me also. He kind of jinxed himself with this... now I want him to refinish all the furniture!
